Hello! My name is Melody Symonds, and this Fall 2020 will be my final semester at California State University Northridge (CSUN). My hope is to finish here with my Bachelor’s degree in English Subject Matter, then onward to pursue my educational dream of a master’s degree and PH.D. Let me give you a little background of who I am and where I come from.
I was born in San Francisco, but my family moved to San Diego, and then to Los Angeles, where I attended high school. This is my second time around the block, a real career change. Let me tell you a little bit about my younger self. I was one of the original Corsair Cornets-the 200-girl drill team for Santa Monica College. In those days, we had a Dance Squad, Cheerleaders, and Baton Twirlers. This was an exciting time at SMC; we danced with the Rockets at the Macy’s Parade did the Rose Bowl and danced the Half Time show for the Rams before they had their own cheerleaders. Back then, I was a dance major and worked as a model. I didn’t really care for school back then, but I loved the social life!
Now, I have come full circle. I love being on the other side of the desk, teaching. I’ve been married and had five kids of my own. I home-schooled them for nine years. I’m pursuing a teaching degree in English Subject Matter. I am happy to say that two of my children are studying at SMC and one is with me at CSUN.
My favorite color is olive green. My hobbies are reading good books, watching old movies, and going to concerts. I can play a mean game of baseball, and I still love to dance! I am a Christian, a prayer warrior, and I love getting to know people of all backgrounds. I look forward to getting to know you all.
P.S. If you really want to know the ins and outs of my life, please request my personal testimony.
